The Van der Graaff Kid

Many might remember the ageless high-school or science-centre demonstration of the Van der Graaff generator. Static electricity is generated by running a moving belt on a comb and collecting the charge on a great metal ball. The volunteer for the demonstration would put his/her hand on the ball as the charge builds up and see his/her hair rise up spookily. Well, for those who want to try it at home, there is no need for moving belts, combs and a big metal ball; all you need is a platic tunnel and a toddler! Works great! Just be careful to ground yourself when you pick up the little tyke!
