Resonance

This photo illustrates resonance. Any system will have certain natural frequencies of vibration. This includes sound and speakers. When somebody blasts their music on iPod speakers and you place your hand on the source, you can feel it vibrate. But even when the volume is set high, it is still hard to see the actual vibration, let alone the waves. So, I chose to connect a speaker to a device which can control the frequency and amplitude of the speaker. Then, I attached a string about a meter long to the speaker and a pole. As I turned the speaker on, waves started to become visible. But, with the light on, the naked eye cannot see all the antinodes and waves. So, with a long exposure camera and a strobe light, I captured the string as it went thgouth one full cycle.
